Help! Lost Transform Handles

This reader (one of many) has lost the Free Transform or layer Move Tool handles... where did they go???

This question comes in at least twice a month. We've posted the answer many times but I've forgotten the links so I'll post again:

Lost the Transform or Move Tool handles?

Usually happens when (Move Tool) dragging an image or layer into a file that is smaller than the target file.

Just zoom out, then expand the window and you'll see those handles out in the gray background. Now you can act on that object.

(By the way, if you select an area outside of the image area into that gray "pasteboard" with the Crop tool (tap C) you'll add that much canvas to the file... it's a quick way to custom-align the added canvas without going through the "Canvas Size" diaog. Make sure you've set the background color first!.

Good Day.
