Reflections on Water

Easy... give it a flip and a ripple...

Devil from Houston, TX, using Adobe Photoshop 7 with Windows XP Pro, writes in with:

[Quote:] I would like to create a reflection image on water. Looking for instructions on how to create this or what software would allow me to do this type of photo. Are there sites available that have samples of this and/or instructions? thanks

Take the image and drag it to a new layer. (Tap V)

See our tutorial : "Shadows" to position the type or image, then set to perspective and fall-off blur.

For a more VIVID reflection, skip the blurring steps in the above tutorial

Once you've completed that tutorial, all you have to do is us the "Ripple" filter to achieve the "laying on water" effect.

You'll need to experiment with the filter because the ripples ideally should have the color of the light source... if the sky is blue, then the ripple highlights should be blue. If the sky is at sunset, yellows and reds, then so should the ripple highlights.

Once you have your "reflection" on the layer. I would recommend that you use the displacement map filter. The displacement map will "displace" or wrap the image based on another image. For more info on this go to, http://teachertoolkit.cvc4.org/inst/Teacher-Toolkit/public/bob5/displace.html for a very easy to understand tutorial about Displacement Maps.

This will give your image just the realistic touch for the illusion to really work well.
