PS Won't Select Pixels

I have been trying to follow a tutorial which ask to select a portion of an individuals eye but when I do I am always getting a warning saying no more than 50% of pixels selected

What am I doing or what do I need to do to select that area properly.

Is it the size of the image or maybe settings I may have.

Thanks for any help.

Set feathering to zero pixels. You are trying to select such a small area that any feathering effectively cancels the selection.
